1962- had tics for World Series. My father accompanied me to ask Fr. Mahoney (discipline) for permission to attend game since I was an Honor Student and had gym in the afternoon. His response "if I let every student out for cockamamie excuses, what is left?" As I was procuring pushups a reference to me came over the loudspeaker. Mr. Gallagher told me to report. There I was walking the long hall as if in High Noon and all of 6'6" Mahoney approached. He proclaimed "Nice to see you, expulsion averted!" It was a tough pill to swallow that day but a lesson well earned. It helped me through military service and the corporate world. Maybe marriage too! If you can keep a secret it became necessary to call in sick for game 2 of the 1963 World Series. Hayes will be a great school well into the future.
